Environmental responsibility throughout the life cycle

The pursuit of eco-friendly objectives paves the way for the continuous improvement of environmental performance, not only in the production phase but throughout the entire product life cycle.

In the procurement phase of raw materials/parts, the main impact comes from the related production and distribution which involves direct and indirect CO2 emissions, water consumption and waste production. Although these impacts are difficult for the Group to monitor, Piaggio has calculated the Scope 3 emissions deriving from the goods and services purchased using the expenditure-based method.

In the production phase, the greatest impacts are linked to the consumption of electricity and natural gas, which cause direct and indirect CO2 emissions, the consumption of water mainly linked to painting and the amounts of waste produced. All these impacts are monitored and reported.

In the distribution phase, the impact derives from the fuel consumption of vehicles used to transport finished products, spare parts and accessories. Piaggio is evaluating how to estimate these impacts, which are currently not monitored due to the difficulty in calculating them.

In the phase of use by customers, the impact derives from the fuel consumption of the vehicles and possible disposal of consumables and worn parts. Although these impacts are difficult for the Group to monitor, Piaggio has made estimates to calculate the emissions resulting from the use of its products sold. Piaggio promotes safe and responsible driving and designs vehicles that are increasingly environmentally friendly.

In the disposal phase, the impact derives from dismantling the various parts for their recovery or disposal. All vehicles are designed for effective disposal at end of life. The Group's vehicles are particularly durable.

*Data relating to energy and fuel consumption expressed in GJ are calculated using the conversion standards shown in the table of standard parameters published by ISPRA and the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) for the year 2022. For electricity, the standard coefficient 1 kWh = 0.0036 GJ is used instead.
